Wrapping Up the Track Season
PLEASE NOTE: We will have our combined practice on Monday, 6/1, at the River City High School Track in West Sacramento. Wednesday’s practices will be at the regular Davis and West Sac locations.

Another meet, another weekend of big personal bests! These Hawks are amazing – they do the work, they get focused for their races, and then they perform like champions. But before I get to listing some of the biggest performances, I think it is important to remind everyone that one of our three Cs is capacity. Everyone has a different capacity, and that capacity changes from day to day. There are many times, despite doing everything right and training hard throughout the week, when we don’t perform to the level we had hoped. That is ok! Improvement in distance running is not linear – no matter how hard we try, we do not just get better every week. Things happen that can impact our capacity for improvement, and often times those things are completely out of our control. That’s ok, too! We don’t base our identities on our times or our PRs, we build our confidence based on our work product and our effort. The times will come, if we just believe in ourselves and stay consistent. So never lose heart, or if you do, just ask Coach Haley or I for our thoughts on your situation. We have a lot of experience and can probably help you feel better about it.
So the Hawks definitely showed up to race this weekend at Inderkum High School. We had more medal winners than we’ve had this season, and so many big PRs that I can’t list them all. Our younger athletes really made big gains, with Rosalind improving her best 1500m time by over 1 minute! William G also ran a big PR, improving his 1500m by 25 seconds. In the 800m, Charlotte improved by 35 seconds and Paxton ran a 16 second PR! Hugo, Mac, and Lulu all had big improvements in their 1500m times as well.
Next weekend is our last meet of the regular track season. We will be competing on Saturday and Sunday at the Golden West Invitational in Rancho Cordova. The 1500m is up on Saturday, and the meet coordinators are estimating them to begin at 7:30pm (though they plan to update their schedule later this week). The 800m is scheduled for Sunday, my best estimate at this point is they could start as early as noon. We hope to have more details soon to share. Please indicate your interest ASAP in the TeamSnap app so we can register the team.
Coach Haley will post on the TeamSnap app the list she has registered and their events – if you see any mistakes please let her know asap.
