Moving into the Final Stretch for the Season

It may be hard to believe, but we are already in the second half of our track season. Our runners are hitting their strides, getting faster and stronger, and learning how to race. Now we get more serious.
This past weekend our runners got to participate in a low-key intrasquad meet – a great entry point for some and a fun way to lift each other up as a team. Even without other teams to push us, we still had a whole slew of PRs! Way to go, Hawks!
Our next competition is another Sac Track Series (STS) meet on Saturday at Inderkum High School in Natomas. There will be the 1500m early on, with the 800m, later in the meet. If it is anything like the last time, the 1500m races will probably begin around 10:30, so we need those athletes to be there by 9:30, and the 800m will begin sometime after 1pm, so if your athlete is only signed up for the 800m then you need to arrive by noon.
Coach Haley will post on the TeamSnap app the list she has registered and their events – if you see any mistakes please let her know asap.
For a look-ahead, we have only a few meets left in our regular season. This coming weekend, we are competing at Inderkum High again similar to our first meet of the season. The following weekend is the super-fun Chico “Fast Five” meet that our athletes always really enjoy. The weekend after that – Memorial Day Weekend – we compete in the Tom Moore Invite down in Modesto. And then our final meet of the regular season is the Golden West Invitational in Rancho Cordova on June 6th. Let’s give our kiddos the opportunity to really improve over the next month!
There will be an opportunity to continue to train with the Hawks over the summer. On one hand, those who are interested in pursuing any “post-season” races like trying to qualify for USATF Junior Olympics in Southern California can sign up for a championship training month. On the other hand, those who want to maintain their fitness and do off-season training through the summer until cross country begins in August, there will be the opportunity to sign up for that training with Coach Eric. Please let the coaches know if you’re interested in either path – and remember they are completely optional.
