Halden a Huge Success for Hawks!

The conditions could not have been better for the Halden Youth/Middle School 1600m on Saturday in Davis! Thin clouds kept the heat low, while a cool northern breeze was enough to stir the heart but not impact the running. The crowd was large and music was energetic, so our Hawks were really feeling the moment. All this adds up to a spectacular day for our runners, and some amazing improvements!
Starting with the oldest Hawk and working our way down, Isaac ran 6:02, improving from his previous personal best 1600m by 1:17! Sonia, David, and Evan all improved their best times in the 1600m as well. Meanwhile, our sixth-grade runners also significantly improved, with Josie taking 27 seconds off her PR, Jack 17 seconds, Henry 14 seconds, and Will 11 seconds. Mia improved by 25 seconds and Jai by 21 seconds. Both William Gavia and Kailey improved their 1500m equivalent times (this was their first 1600m, but their paces were better than their 1500m PRs from earlier this season). Finally, while this was Hugo’s first race longer than 800m, he essentially ran is 800m PR twice in his 1600m debut! All in all, every Hawk soared around the Davis track yesterday and made us all incredibly proud!
Our next meet is a fun one in Elk Grove at Sheldon High School on FRIDAY, April 24th, called the Glenn Rogers Distance Carnival. It is another high school meet that also holds youth events, this time both the 1600m and the 800m. It starts early, with the youth 1600s beginning at 3pm so we need athletes signed up for that event arriving by 2pm. If your athlete is only running the 800m, we expect those to begin around 5 or 6pm, so please arrive by 4pm. Coach Haley has posted on the TeamSnap app the list she has registered and their events – if you see any mistakes please let her know asap.
Despite the meet, we are going to keep working hard in practice as we aim to improve throughout the season and hopefully achieve our peak performances in June. The schedule for this week is as follows:
