In 2019, Dusty Robinson and Phil Ogilvie founded the Delta Hawks with the goal of shaping confident and competitive young runners in the Sacramento region. Despite the challenges of parent coaches and volunteers leading the team for the past six years, we have seen great success at the regional and national level. Looking ahead, we are determined to ensure the Delta Hawks continue to thrive and be respected in the running community. To set the Hawks up for long-term viability, we recently transitioned to a non-profit organization and have established a board of directors with exciting plans for the future.
While our volunteer coaches have been incredible, we recognize the need for sustainability and have begun setting aside funds and considering funding models that could create the potential for paying coaches. We strongly believe distance running is a serious sport and youth wanting to take it seriously deserve coaches dedicated to developing a program that enables them to reach their potential. As we experiment and explore this model, we are happy to hear from parents and appreciate your patience and understanding.
In addition, our volunteer team managers are looking for more help as many hands lighten the load. We are seeking volunteers to help manage uniforms, plan social events, and serve as a parent liaison on the new board. If you are interested in getting involved in any of these roles, please reach out to us.
While cross country season has ended for many of us, track season is right around the corner and so we want to explore and develop our team in the coming months. Please reach out to me or coach Eric or coach Haley if you have any interest and want to join our management team.
A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches Eric and Haley, as well as our board members RJ Griffith, Molly Lindsay, Phil Ogilvie, and Ryan Miller. Together, we are shaping the future of the Delta Hawks and our young athletes.
Cheers,
Alicia Mittleman
Team Manager and Board President
