Hawks Spring Into Action at Springview Invite!

ree

The Hawks competed amazingly this weekend at the Springview Invitational. Almost everyone ran the fastest pace of the season in the meet, our work is really paying off! Sonia led the way on the girl’s side, with followed by Mia Jackson, Amelia Weeks, Maddi, and Kate Carrillo. On the boy’s side, Pier was our first finisher, followed by David, Gyan, Evan, Jack, and then Will. While everyone had an amazing day, I have to call out two runners who have showed incredible improvement over last spring. In track, Gyan ran a PR of 6:07 for 1500m (which is about 6:30 for the mile. Yesterday, he ran over 1.5 miles in sub 6 min/mile pace! Likewise, Amelia Weeks only ran the 800m last year with a PR of 3:18, but ran yesterday’s race in 6:40 min/mile pace – meaning she ran three 800s in a row in 3:20! Both of these athletes embody our Hawks’ credo of consistently putting in the work. If you are consistent, run 3 or 4 times a week and stay healthy, you will see major improvements!

Our next meet is coming up next weekend, Sunday, Sept 28th in Hayward. The Oakland Cubs are hosting a USATF meet in which our athletes will compete in their 2-year age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14). The meet begins at 10am, so we need the younger Hawks there by 9am. The 11-12 and 13-14 age group runners can arrive by 10am. For more info you can click here. Please RSVP by Monday the 22nd so we can ensure you're registered.

As mentioned in the last blog, we want to encourage any Hawk interested in a Nationals-level event to let us know as soon as possible. We will be taking any interested runners to the Middle School Nationals meet in Louisville, KY, over the November 14-16 weekend. Athletes do not need to qualify for this meet, and will compete in either the 7th-8th grade or the 6th-and-under categories. I have been to this meet, the course is really nice and the meet is well run. Louisville is a fun town and the families seem to have a blast! Happy to talk details to any family interested in going, please let Coach Haley or I know ASAP.

Finally, I want to encourage any Hawks interested in a fun, low-key road race to check out the Clarksburg Country Run. The Hawks have a discount code that we can share with anyone interested (I think maybe we can add it to the TeamSNAP app).
